   Loyal, Wisconsin

There are three versions to how the town of Loyal was named. The first is that the earliest permanent families were loyal to each other; the second is the patriotic nature of the men of the pioneer town who went off to protect the Union during the Civil War in the 1860’s; and thirdly, it is said that Oliver Hill selected the name from his experiences on the battle field. Whatever the reason, one fact remains……today’s Loyal residents are still as dedicated as were their forefathers of many years ago, as banners proclaiming ‘We Are Loyal’ adorn both sides of main street throughout the town. Early settlers of the area directed their efforts mightily to the trees, streams, and land out of which they began to carve the smoother civilization of today. Logging and pioneer farming brought settlers to the area which is now known for its productive land and dairy heritage. The city of Loyal was established in 1870. Loyal is well known for its annual late August Corn Festival; a grand celebration that commemorates the end of another growing season.

Loyal is the place ‘where city and country meet’. On the one hand, Loyal is a mere 15 minutes from the city of Marshfield, yet in the other direction, it’s only a short drive to county forest land, fishing opportunities, and other rural attractions. Loyal itself has three parks, a softball diamond, volleyball and tennis courts, a golf course and horseshoe pits. Individuals can go bowling at the bowling alley, or enjoy a quiet afternoon at the library. Organizations around town include the American Legion Post 175, Loyal Economic Development, Boy Scouts, Jaycees, Loyal Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the FFA Alumni Association, as well as a myriad of 4-H Clubs, to name but a few.

2003 ParadeThe theme of the 2003 Corn Fest was “We Are Loyal”. Citizens State Bank of Loyal entered a float in the Corn Fest Parade and was awarded the “Judge’s Choice” honor from amongst 114 parade entries. The float, complete with the music ‘My Town’ was described as follows:
